What You Can Expect

Registrants will be invited to take a four-hour virtual training on April 24 and 25, led by The Diaspora Academy.  Both sessions are two hours long and will be recorded and available for viewing after each session.

This session will cover the fundamentals of advocacy, including

  • Introduction to Diaspora Advocacy

  • Unlocking Strategies for Effective Congressional Advocacy

  • Identifying Your Diaspora Advocacy Priorities

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this training is to support and strengthen the advocacy skills and capacity of Sudanese-American diaspora, as a constituency focused on US-Sudan policies and the needs of Sudanese-Americans in the United States.

We believe Sudanese diasporas in the United States are experienced in mobilizing resources, responding to needs on the ground and utilizing social media, but significant gaps still exist with their familiarity and expertise in conducting congressional advocacy in their home states and in Washington, D.C.

Led by Semhar Araia, this training aims to help strengthen their US-based civic engagement efforts by providing a foundational training on effective diaspora congressional advocacy.
