Testimonials

Alex Amaniel
The Diaspora Academy's guidance has been critical to my professional development over the years, as an Eritrean-American professional, and in shaping how I support my community. Semhar provided me support early in my career, preparing me for internship and job opportunities, and was a sounding board and mentor in helping me craft successful diaspora community programs.

Natzinet Ghebrenegus
There is a sense of immense joy whenever I encounter another Eritrean. Growing up in a predominately White area made me more curious about my Eritrean identity, which grew once I attended university in Washington, DC, where I met other second-generation Eritreans. I am excited to hear from other second-generation Eritreans from emerging fields and diverse upbringings in the United States and Canada. Inspired by what Issa Rase said on the 2017 Emmy's red carpet, "I am rooting for everybody Eritrean." EDIS is the perfect event to engage with our community, and I hope for future events!

Yonas Abraha
Semhar has guided me for over a decade, helping me grow from a youth leader to the community chair of the Eritrean-American Community Center of Georgia. Her mentorship has shaped my vision and purpose, and thanks to her, we now lead one of the most organized and mission-driven Eritrean-American community centers in our region.
